:: About the Division of Pharmaceutical Studies ::

DCL began its foray into the clinical trials laboratory services market in 1992. Based upon its reputation as a high quality anatomic pathology (AP) service provider and its ability to quickly develop new testing methodologies, DCL was invited to participate in a trial involving approximately 25 investigator sites in the continental United States. DCL’s successful involvement in this trial from a major pharmaceutical company, led to additional requests from another company and we were encouraged to seriously consider what role DCL might play in this exciting and challenging market.

The drug development process has evolved through decades of innovations so that it now may take up to 12 years and more than $800 million to bring a new orphan drug to market. Determining the safety and efficacy of new drugs is a costly business but to those involved in this research and development (R&D) process, there is the reward of contributing in some way to the health and welfare of mankind as well as the financial reward to those companies that are diligent in the pursuit of excellence. In the past two years alone, pharmaceutical companies have optimized this enormous per drug investment, resulting in the introduction of more than 100 new medicines to patients, an unprecedented number of new drugs and biologics.

To maximize the effective use of their R&D dollars sponsors have increased their efforts to outsource to strategic partners with specific expertise in therapeutic and regulatory areas, pre-clinical and clinical drug development as well as cutting edge technology.
